Gratitude and the Law of Attraction

Gratitude is a crucial element of the law of attraction. It is considered one of the forms of positivity, along with joy, hope, pride and love. Most of us take a great many things in our lives for granted, such as our health or the love of our spouse. It is only once we lose something, e.g. we get sick or our partner leaves us, do we realise how we were not really grateful for them while they were still intact. In the busy day-to-day lives that most of us lead, it is easy to forget about our gratitude for the things that we have, though if asked, most of us would agree that being grateful and appreciative is a very important emotion.

Gratitude is easily confused with politeness. Saying “thank you” is not necessarily the same as being truly grateful. Gratefulness is something that comes from the heart. It is uplifting and triggers the urge to give back.

It is apparent how gratitude is an important “tool” to making the law of attraction work with us. It produces positive emotions and you may feel more inclined to give in return, which creates a virtuous circle that will help you reap the benefits of the law of attraction.

While it is impossible to always feel positive, and would be unnatural and at times of grief for example, inappropriate, one should try to increase positivity in ones life. It is tricky as a moment of joy, for example, can be hijacked quite easily by negative emotions.

Gratitude is a very powerful feeling and can be used as an antidote to your negative emotions and here is how: If you are feeling down, or sad, try to list all the things that you are good in your life: your loving partner, your comfortable house, and even things like the beautiful flowers in your garden or your pet. Focus on each one of them and think why you appreciate them. This should evoke a strong feeling of gratitude that comes from deep inside you. If you practice this every day and at times when negative emotions are trying to take over, positivity will increase in your life. Try to go through your mental list of 3-5 things to be grateful for as you wake up and do it again before you go to sleep.

You don’t have to be a very spiritual person or a believer in the law of attraction to accept the fact that feeling grateful for what you have will help you improve your life. Gratitude features in many self-development books and programs. Anthony Robbins for example, lists appreciation and gratitude as one of the “Ten Emotions of Power” (see Awaken the Giant Within : How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!)

The point of this blog and website is that all the elements of the law of attraction will help you improve your life and give it more meaning, whether you believe in the universe and the law of attraction or not. Gratitude is proven to make people more resistant to crises and allows them to refocus after negative events in their lives.

According to Robert Emmons, Ph.D. (see Thanks!: How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier), gratitude functions “a psychological immune system that bulletproofs you in times of crisis.”

So there are many spiritual and scientific reasons to live with an attitude of gratitude!

Many people would say that the law of attraction is hocus pocus and does not work. My point with this website is that if you implement all the elements that form the basis of the law of attraction, such as being positive, envisioning your goals, giving to others etc, your life is bound to get better, richer and more meaningful.
